Amy's story

If it hadn’t been for Unite Legal Services I doubt my claim would have had the same outcome.

Amy had been employed at a supermarket as a delicatessen manager for three years at the time of her accident.

Amy was moving waste cardboard to a cage at the rear of the supermarket’s premises, which involved walking down a smooth steel ramp.

At the time of her accident, the ramp was wet and slippery and this caused Amy to fall to the ground and strike the right side of her face.

She suffered pain around her cheekbone, eye and mouth. Her symptoms did not improve and Amy was later diagnosed with nerve damage.

She had nerve block procedures and now wears analgesic patches on her face to manage the pain. Her condition is likely to be permanent.

After her accident, Amy found it difficult to cope with the pain her injuries caused and the impact it had on her day-to-day life. She was unable to return to work and retired.

Amy sought help from Unite Legal Services who investigated a claim for compensation. Initially, her employer tried to argue that she was in some way responsible for her injuries. High Court proceedings were issued, but her employer conceded full liability and paid £35,000 in compensation to Amy.

Amy said:

“It gave me great peace of mind knowing that I didn’t have to worry about costs – that was a big factor for me. I would be happy to recommend Unite Legal Services to others.”
