Occupational asthma claims

If you suffer from work-related asthma, Unite Legal Services is here to guide you through the process of making an occupational asthma claim against your employer.

At Unite Legal Services, we have helped Unite members, and their non-working family members, to get occupational asthma compensation after they’ve developed asthma as a result of their working conditions.

While we campaign for better working conditions for Unite members, we’re also on-hand to offer legal support when health and safety at work has let them down. Employers have a duty of care to make sure their workers are protected when they are exposed to hazardous and dangerous substances at work. But if they fail to do so, and you have developed occupational asthma as a result, we’re here to represent you in a claim and to hold the employer responsible.

Read our guide to claiming for occupational asthma.

What is occupational asthma?

Occupational asthma is brought on by substances known as respiratory sensitisers. There are more than 200 respiratory sensitisers including isocyanates chemicals, wood dust, dust from flour and grain, latex rubber dust as well as dust from insects and animals.

Common symptoms of work-related asthma include wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. Symptoms may worsen during the working week, but can also be prevalent after work or during the night.

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, get in touch to start your claim for occupational asthma compensation. Not only will our team secure you compensation for your suffering, but we will also make sure that your employer is held accountable for failing to protect your health and safety at work.
