Greg's story
I am pleased with the very thorough service of Unite Legal Services and would not hesitate to recommend them.
Greg* was employed in a paper mill and suffered an injury during his employment. He was required to repeatedly cut reels of paper and suffered injury to his elbow and wrist as a result of unsafe work practices.
Greg, through Unite Legal Services, was contacted by a specialist personal injury solicitor to discuss his case. Liability was admitted by the insurance company acting on behalf of Greg’s employers.
Unite Legal Services funded a medical report from a consultant orthopaedic surgeon which assisted Greg’s case by setting out the injuries he sustained purely as a result of his repetitive work activities. The medical evidence confirmed that Greg had developed right tennis elbow, left golfers elbow and tendinitis of the left wrist as a result of his work activities. The expert was of the view that these symptoms should resolve within 12 months of a reduction in Greg’s workload.
The medical evidence was released to the insurance company acting on behalf of Greg’s employers. An initial offer of £3,500 was put forward in full and final settlement. This offer was rejected. A further offer of £4,200 was put forward in settlement. This offer was discussed with Greg and it was also rejected, as was a further offer of £8,700. Eventually, an increased offer of £9,950 was accepted. This represented fair compensation for Greg’s injuries and by this time, his employers had finally made changes to their work processes.
As this case was funded by Unite Legal Services, Greg retained 100% of his compensation. Through Unite Legal Services, Greg was able to access proper legal advice from a specialist solicitor, ensuring that negotiations relating to his case began in early course. The specialist advice also ensured that matters were dealt with promptly and avoided the need for court proceedings to be raised.
Greg said: “Thank you to Unite Legal Services for all of their help. I am pleased with the very thorough service of Unite Legal Services and would not hesitate to recommend them.
“I found I could leave them to take control of the case and I was kept informed with everything that was happening”.
