Car passenger involved in collision is awarded compensation

Alan turned to Unite Legal Services after being injured in August 2016, when the driver of the car in which he was a passenger drove through a red light. The car was hit in the middle of the crossroads.

Alan was rushed to hospital with an injured shoulder and neck as well as a broken jaw.

Alan was unable to eat properly as his jaw had been knocked out of place. His bite had changed and it was possible that he would need to undergo surgery in future. He also suffered with numbness and pain on his face, especially in cold weather.

Alan also became a nervous passenger after the accident.

The Defendant’s insurer admitted liability as the Defendant pleaded guilty in Court to driving without due care and attention.

Unite Legal Services organised for Alan to be assessed by two medical experts who were very supportive of his claim.

Whilst Alan was undergoing treatment, the Defendant made a very substantial offer to settle the claim on a full and final basis.

Unite Legal Services provided Alan with detailed advice setting out all of the options available to him. Alan was happy to accept the Defendant’s offer and he received 100% of the compensation.

Alan said: “I am really pleased that Unite Legal Services were able to secure 100% compensation when I was injured as a passenger.

“I really appreciate all of the advice that Unite Legal Services gave me throughout the claim and I am more than happy with the amount I received. I would recommend them to everyone.”

Karen Reay, North East Yorkshire and Humberside regional secretary of Unite the Union, said:  “An accident that results in an injury is a horrible experience. By pursuing his claim through Unite Legal Services, he has received 100% of his compensation for an injury that he should never have suffered, and the Defendant has rightfully been held solely to account.”
