Driver receives compensation following a collision with an escaped farm animal

Anna was involved in a road traffic accident when a cow, which had escaped from a farmer’s field, suddenly appeared in the middle of the road that she was driving on.

Anna was unable to stop her vehicle in time as she was travelling at around 60mph and unfortunately she collided with the animal.

The collision caused severe damage to her vehicle and Anna sustained several injuries. She had to be cut out of the vehicle by emergency services.

Anna was naturally shaken up by the accident and required counselling to help her overcome the anxieties associated with the accident.

Anna spoke with Unite Legal Services who organised physiotherapy treatment, which helped to aid her recovery while reducing the stress she was under as a result of the accident.

Unite Legal Services also arranged for a medical examination. Medical reports were obtained and negotiations with the insurance company were handled by Anna’s expert legal team.

Anna received more than £9,500 in compensation and as a member of Unite, she received 100% of the compensation secured for her and did not have to pay anything towards the legal costs.

Anna said: “I was involved in a collision with an escaped farm animal while driving my own vehicle outside of work. Thankfully Unite Legal Services provided me with the support I needed and I received compensation for my injuries. The service I received was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. My claim was dealt with efficiently and professionally.”

Karen Reay, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside regional secretary at Unite, said: “This was an unfortunate accident that could have been avoided if the farm animal had been properly secured by the land-owner. This case highlights the fact that Unite Legal Services can provide assistance for Unite members involved in any Road Traffic Accident and the cover is not limited to accidents which occur during the course of your employment.
