Following an ERS ballot at National Express West Midlands Craft Group, the results of an industrial action ballot were announced:
- 83.7% of Unite members voted in favour of taking strike action.
- 93.5% of Unite members voted to take action short of strike action.
Steve Peacock, regional officer, stated: “All in all, this was an outstanding show of support from our members at National Express. The Craft Bargaining Group, covering engineers, electricians, body makers and fitters, sent a very clear message to the employer. As a result we forced the company back to the negotiating table where they met our request for an increase in pay across all elements, except service payments.”
Mr Peacock continued: “Thanks to the support of Unite Legal Services, we agreed a 28 day extension to allow further negotiations to take place, which eventually led to a settlement. This is yet another example of how Unite Legal Services is supporting Unite the Union's Industrial Agenda.”
